Managers' and Coaches' Code of Conduct and Responsibilities
All managers and coaches, as a condition to their selection and continued service as managers and coaches, must adhere to the following Code of Conduct and Responsibilities:
  • 1. Managers and coaches are to recognize that they are role models and examples for the players and are to conduct themselves accordingly.
  • 2. Managers and coaches must show good sportsmanship at all times.
  • 3. Managers and coaches may not swear or use abusive language.
  • 4. Managers and coaches must treat umpires with respect. If a manager wishes to question a decision or needs to discuss a situation, he must ask for time out and, if granted, discuss the matter courteously. Note only managers (or acting managers) should have discussion with the umpire.
  • 5. A manager or a coach must not abuse equipment in anger.
  • 6. Verbal abuse or ridicule of any player is prohibited.
  • 7. Threats of physical abuse or pushing, shoving, grabbing of shoulders or similar acts of "discipline" are prohibited.
  • 8. The manager shall be held responsible for any prohibited activity of his coaches and players. All players and coaches are to be advised that the manager can be ejected or suspended for their behavior.
  • 9. After the game begins, the manager and his coaches are to remain in the dugout at all times, except (a) when time out is requested and granted for a conference with a pitcher or umpire, (b) when coaching first or third base or (c) for an injury.
  • 10. Managers and coaches will be assigned umpiring responsibilities during the course of the season.
  • 11. Managers and coaches are responsible for field maintenance (raking, replacing tarps, etc.) after every practice.
  • 12. Home team manager and coaches are responsible for prepping a field (striping, etc.) before a game. Visitor team manager and coaches are responsible for raking the field after a game.
  • 13. Managers must strictly follow NWFALL rules relating to (a) substitution rules and (b) rotation rules.
  • 14. A manager or a coach may not solicit funds from team sponsors for the team's own use. All sponsor funds are to be turned over to NWFALL.
  • 15. The manager and each coach must know the playing rules and make sure the rules are obeyed at all times. Work to avoid protests. The manager is accountable for all violations, whether intentional or not, including, but not limited to, batting order violations, substitution violations, pitching violations and starting player violations.
  • 16. Only the manager and two (2) coaches are permitted in the dugout. No non-players are allowed in the dugout. Exception: in the T-Ball, Single A & Double A Divisions a "Dugout Person" may be used in addition to the coaches to maintain order and discipline in the dugout.
  • 17. Managers must be on time for games and practices and may not leave players unattended.
  • 18. Managers and coaches must make sure that players adequately stretch and warm-up before practices and games, especially on cooler days. Both managers and coaches should recommend to each player that he/she bring a jacket to the games and practices on cold days.
  • 19. Managers must have line-up cards and, where applicable, fielding rotation charts, prepared before the game to assure timely starts and proper attention are given to warm-ups.
  • 20. The manager is responsible for all equipment; he must not allow players to throw or otherwise abuse equipment. A manager must turn in equipment promptly upon the close of the season.
  • 21. A manager must be certain that a responsible coach is available at all times when he/she cannot be present.
  • 22. A manager must bring his roster and medical release forms to all practices, games, trips to the batting cages and other team events.
  • 23. Managers and coaches should support and create a positive team attitude toward field maintenance, preservation of equipment, league events and fundraising events.
  • 24. Managers and coaches should encourage participation by all players, especially the weaker players. Do not ridicule players or discourage their involvement. Make each player feel important to the team. Do not ridicule or criticize players to other parents or other team managers. Do not circulate statistics (hits, RBIs, batting averages, or base percentages, etc.) for the full team if to do so would hold out weaker players to ridicule from teammates or frustrate weaker players.
  • 25. Managers should direct all items of conflict or concern to their applicable Division Director and/or the VP of Baseball.
  • 26. Mangers and coaches must not show favoritism to any player including their own children.
  • 27. It is a manager's duty to report any rule violation committed by another manager in his/her Division to the appropriate Division Director and/or the VP of Baseball.
